Julius fights the urge to throw up as best as he can, felling terrible. "I don't feel too well. I think I'm going to sit here and have Olly carry me the rest of the way. I don't think I can cast any more for a while without seriously hurting myself."

Loki waves after the man with a genuine friendly smile on his lips. "Have a lovely evening, Sir, and get home safely. Do come again!"

He turns back to Mac. "Sometimes people just need to be made understand what exactly it is they are doing to others. If that hadn't worked, I probably would have had one of the outcomes you already talked about, too, so don't feel bad. Besides, not everyone is as quick on the uptake as this fella.

But you piqued my curiosity. How would Alice have handled this?"

Loki
Mac shrugs, "The guy went through a window before he shut his mouth. His friends went right after him. Of course, we had to pay for the repairs, since it was an unnecessary course of action." Mac gives a glance around the room, then claps Loki on the shoulder and starts toward the bar, "You've made friends tonight. None of the staff like the touchy customers, and security who cares about such matters are treated well. Almost as well as the security who don't break things. You are both, which makes you good security. And a good owner will pay good security good money to protect their establishment."

Moving along the bar, Mac steps to the exit and ducks his head out for a moment, glancing along the street, "Now, chances are we can spend the next hour peacefully. After that we'll be hitting nine o'clock, and into the last three hours before closing. Tends to be around eight that the later workers finish, and nine that they crowd themselves into anywhere they can drink, so after our hour of peace we'll probably be getting a load of new customers who don't know your success and want to drink as much as possible. Now, quick check, how harshly do you think you should deal with those newcomers? Say, if they start a heated argument compared to if they break a glass."

((I was hoping one of the smarter people would have a suggestion but...))

...Olly looks at the handprint and looks at his magical hand, then gives Korga an "is this a dumb idea?" look.

...So, we're going to wait on the 5-m wide platform over the never-ending drop? Cool

Olly checks the ropes are secure, then has a look over the edge to see if he can see the bottom of the cavern.

(Well, five metres is more than enough for everyone to sit or even lay down, so long as you don't toss about too much. :p)

Korga, as always, plays the voice of reason, convincing Olly to wait while Julius recovers. Olly, unable to sit still, checks their surroundings while they wait. Taking some time to inspect the ropes, they seem to be secured well, with the fixtures planted solidly into the rock. Leaning out a little over the edge, with the bridge for support, he looks down into the depths of the cavern. There's enough light to illuminate the entire space, though it's impossible to determine where the light is coming from, unlike the clearly glowing crystals in the passageway. Considering the distance to the bottom of the drop, it seems to be several hundred metres down.

Taking a break to recover from the recent traversal, everyone tries to rest in the calm surrounding the pillar. It's several minutes before Julius' queasiness passes enough for him to be confident that he's not going to lose his breakfast when he stands up, though his arms and legs are still quivering slightly. He's probably going to have to rest for a few hours to make a decent recovery after overworking himself like that.

Olly looks at Korga and shrugs. He opens his bag and pulls out some rations and starts chewing on some dried meat. He offers some to Korga too.

"Sounds like we're waiting then. You want some food Julius? Or are you too sick?"

Olly whistles while they wait for Julius to feel better, and passes the time checking his gauntlets. He'll also hold his magic hand near the handprint on the pedestal in case he can feel anything like the crystal connection between his hand and this thing. If Korga looks concerned, he'll reassure her with "no I'm not going to touch it yet, don't worry."

Ah, I should clarify that it's not a handprint but a full carved hand, with the fingers pointing upward.

(( "A carved hand" was rather obscure, anyway, don't worry about it.))

Everyone sits about and has a bit to eat, finding ways to idle away the time. It's a long and boring wait, but after a few hours, Julius starts to make a better recovery. Not a full one, but close. Olly eventually decides he's had enough of sitting around, and goes to investigate holding his crystalline hand near the carving. It doesn't seem like there's any reaction.

Loki listens to Mac with a tilted head and a curious expression on his face. "Why are you asking me, you're the one with experience?" He chuckles.

"But if you want to defer to the newbie's opinion, I would suggest the following:

First of all, you should take one of your breaks now. Even if you say this guy's words didn't faze you, I'd rather give you a chance to calm down, take a breather, re-compose yourself, or just simply wash your face with cool water. I know it helps me when I had someone up my face this close...

Secondly, about that wave of potentially unruly customers, I would say that we should co-ordinate with Jon here, if he is ready to volunteer a 'carrot' for good behaviour, or if the 'stick' is all we got at our disposal. Like is there something he can - and is willing to - offer patrons who will simply drink and talk and sit somewhat quietly - like complimentary nuts to go with their drinks, a small discount for their tab for the evening, or such? If so, we could quickly make two, three posters declaring that 'ruly' customers get special treatment tonight, what it is and what the conditions are to get it.
If we only can scare or bully or talk down customers who already are misbehaving, I would go for a case-by-case judgement, depending on a lot of factors - like how many customers are looking for a fight, are they squabbling amongst each other or not, are they likely to damage the property or worse, hurt someone. We shouldn't tolerate anyone breaking stuff deliberately, but if someone is just clumsy, well, we can simply take their name and have them pay Jon for it eventually. Not that we shouldn't get their name and have them pay if they do it deliberately, but I daresay that will be a little bit lower on the list of our worries, in such a situation.

However, I would like to hear - when you come back from your break, that is - how you and Alice use to handle these things."

"I'm not asking for advice, but to see how you'd handle it, making sure you're not on the wrong track." Mac listens to Loki's explanation, nodding along at times, "Alright, sounds good. Much better than the buffoons who think all problems are solved by throwing the customers out on their ass. For the record, Jon does provide an incentive for good behaviour by providing customers who have a good history with a discount. Good customers mean good sales, so he still makes a net gain. Anyway, I'll take a short break now, talk to you later."
The bar remains relatively quiet, ignoring the usual hustle and bustle of a bar, and after a few minutes Mac comes back, hair slightly damp. "Now, you want to know how I handle situations. As you said, it's case-by-case. Somebody breaks something, I make sure they're going to pay for it. If somebody starts getting aggressive I try to get them to cool off, but if they don't then I escort them outside, however forcibly I have to. If somebody abuses the staff, they're either going to repent or get kicked out, and if they apologise and do it again anyway they're getting kicked out more roughly. Most of the time the troublemakers are so out of it that I can get a solid hold of them and get them outside without letting them flail around and damage anything. Once they're outside their options are to leave or get some bruises.

Loki smirks at Mac admitting to "testing" him like that, but after the mock-punch with which he greeted the other man, Loki considers it fair game.
He tries to find the staff member that got molested and check if they are alright, if they need anything, perhaps encourage Jon to send her on a break, too.

He listens to Mac's elaborations when he returns and nods. "Well, then let's do our best to make sure the rest of the evening remains as uneventful as possible." he says to Mac, a genuine smile on his lips.

Olly, Korga, Julius
Korga decides to get a closer look at the hand. While the hand appears to be smooth at first glance, on closer inspection it is actually highly detailed, with light wrinkling around the knuckles, fine markings all along the palm, and faint veins visible on the back of the hand. She also judges that the solitary silver glove finger is separate from the sculpture.

Loki
While Mac takes his break, Loki manages to find the victim from the earlier event, who seems to be angry more than anything, sitting at the end of the bar trying to recover her friendly attitude before going back to serving.

The night rolls on quietly, with the occasional drinker fumbling a glass, and there's rarely a person stumbling and tripping over chairs, which starts a couple of arguments. This continues until they're moving into the final hour of work, when there's a clatter of chairs and raised voices. At the table in question a mug is tipped over, spilling beer onto the table top and the occupant's pants. Another man appears to have toppled to the ground, while the one with beer spilled on his has come to his feet, shouting at the fallen man.

"I have no idea. And before you ask, I would rather conserve my energy for the bridge. For all I know, it can be anything, maybe it stops the wind, or maybe it opens a passage, or maybe it just leads to death." Julius pulls out some jerky and holds it out to Ragnarok to eat, gently scratching the lizard's head as he waits for his teamates to do something stupid.
