Goblins Minesweepers - Round 1 (Started)

Post by LooksAndSmiles » Fri Mar 29, 2013 7:43 am

Hi everyone, this is the recruitment thread for the next round of the game series called Goblins Minesweepers - On Stranger Lands.

You can check out the 0th round here.

You don't have to know all the rules and can ask for help any time mid-game, but if you are interested on the underlying system, you can get all the information here.

What to do if you have already played:
- Just state that you wish to do so again!
- Vote on the maps you'd like to play! (And please state if you don't want to join a specific map so I can select players easier.)

What to do if you haven't played yet:
-Create a new character!
  • Post your characters name
  • Choose a color (if it overlaps with an exisiting one, I may add some visual quirks to make you distinguishable)
  • Choose a gender! (Male or Female please, I can't deal with "other" kinds. )
- Vote on the maps you'd like to play! (And please state if you don't want to join a specific map so I can select players easier.)

Maps for Round 1

1) Hexing Swamps
Style: Marshlands
Tiles: Hexagonal Grid
Mine Layout: Labyrinth (each safe tile is reachable just by walking from one to another)
Traps: Yes
Monsters: Yes

2) Trying Angles
Style: Basic
Tiles: Triangle Grid
Mine Layout: Random (it is possible that safe areas are separated by mines)
Traps: No
Monsters: No

3) Rooftop Rumble
Style: Cityscape / Rooftops
Tiles: Rectangular Grid, Dispersed (Loosely interconnected areas instead of one array of tiles)
Mine Layout: Labyrinth
Traps: Yes
Monsters: Yes

4) Puzzling Situation
Style: Jigsaw Puzzle
Tiles: Rectangular Grid
Mine Layout: Labyrinth
Traps: Yes
Monsters: No

I'm in.

I'm also torn between map options. I like the idea of new grid shapes. I don't have a strong preference, but hex grid sounds fun to me.

Goska's in.
Ranked from most interested to least:
Rooftops, Puzzling, Marsh, Triangles.

With a strong preference against Trying Angles.

Tries will make appearance. As for the grid, the more sided tiles - the easier. I would like Puzzling Situation to get familiar with concept of traps. Next preferred are maps with non-rectangular grid.

See Four votes for option 4! Puzzled is his middle name after all. In case of a tie I have plan B for the swamps! Stoked at the hexmap.

Quite true. Triangles, in most spots, you'd probably be bordering 12 spaces, and ony able to move to 3 of them, while with hexes you'd be able to walk to all 6 spaces surrounding them, and squares you can walk to 4 of 8 spots surrounding them.

Also check out pentagonal tiling. I would like to play on such.

Then again, perhaps Rooftops could be extremely challenging, with numbers of mines surrounding a tile upto 25.

I like Hexing Swamps.
Haven't played this signature game in a long while but I'll try it out again.

Layered maps. Given at least 3 stories, one layer with at least 7 mines, and the stories below and above counted with at most 18 mines in each, a total of 25 is reachable, while still giving access to that square..

I definitely want some of those tilesets you guys are posting, but didn't want to include them on the very first round.

And you haven't labeled any of these about whether they'd be Practice maps or otherwise. Do we decide that later?

Mainly, whether or not broken flags get replaced at the end of the round.

But if they break only when mine underneath explodes, there is not much of a difference. And you will get reparations worth two flags.

I don't think you guys need another practice map, but we will decide it when enough people join to make the next round feasible. Nevertheless, I'll still have to draw all the equipment, monsters, map doodads...
